Same ID after closing a crypto exchange account: what three exchanges say
30 days on Bitget, and '30 days or longer' on Binance, is the wait before the same identity can verify a new account; Bybit blocks the same identity, email and number with no end date. The email and phone are often locked too, and a new account starts with fewer privileges than the old one.
| Exchange | Wait before the same identity can verify again | Email and phone reuse | What the new account loses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | Verification “may be blocked for 30 days or longer” | Old email blocked from re-registering for 30 days after an email change; identity is the real key | Referral rebates if the referral differs; eligibility for activities and rewards; possibly referral commissions terminated as a duplicate identity |
| Bitget | 30 days | Same 30 days for the same mobile number, email or ID | Bank-transfer feature cannot be reused with a new account on the same ID; rewards and bonuses not distributed to the closing account |
| Bybit | Verified identity and legal name cannot verify another account while blocked | Registered email or mobile number cannot be used to create another account | Rewards and remaining assets on the closed account are removed |
Each exchange keeps the verified identity on file and matches it when a new account tries to verify.
Binance: a wait of 30 days or more, and fewer benefits on the new account
Binance’s closure page does not say you cannot come back. It says what coming back costs:
- “If you create another account after this closure, your identity verification may be blocked for 30 days or longer.”
- “If you close your account and create a new one with a different referral relationship than your current account, you will lose eligibility for any referral rebates.”
- “You will also lose eligibility to participate in activities and receive rewards.”
The referral FAQ adds the mechanism: a new account registered with the same identity information is identified as a duplicate, and if the system reads the closure as done “for referral benefits”, commissions from the new account are terminated and the user gets no rebate. So the new account is a real account with full trading, but it does not regain referral rebates or promotion eligibility, and its verification may sit for a month or more. Bitget: 30 days for the same number, email or ID
Bitget’s closure page states the rule in one line: “After deletion, you must wait 30 days before registering a new account using the same mobile number, email, or ID.” It lists what deletion removes, including verified identity information and any rewards or bonuses, and adds one lasting effect: a bank account opened through Bitget’s bank transfer feature cannot be used with a new account on the same ID card after deactivation. Closure requests are reviewed within 24 hours.
Bybit: the same email, number and identity are blocked
Bybit’s deactivation page says that “the registered email address or mobile number you’ve used for this account cannot be used to create another Bybit account”, and that if the account was verified, “you will not be able to verify another Bybit account using the same ID documents and legal name”. Bybit’s deletion page says deletion is irreversible and removes personal data, saved preferences, rewards and remaining assets, and that certain criteria must be met before deletion is allowed. Neither page, as shown in October 2026, states a waiting period after which the identity is released; treat the block as indefinite unless Bybit’s current page says otherwise.
Can you register again after deleting the account?
The identity is the key, not the email. All three match the verified person. A new email with the same passport reaches the same block.
Count from the closure, not the request, and “or longer” means “or longer”. The safe assumption is that a waiting period runs from the day the closure went through, so count from the confirmation email. Binance does not commit to 30 days at all; a person who closes an account on day 1 and tries to verify on day 31 may still wait.
Promotions and referrals do not reset. Binance’s closure page says a new account loses eligibility for activities and rewards, and referral rebates if the referral differs. The new account is not new to the exchange.
Closing is not required to stop using an exchange. Withdraw, remove keys and payment methods, and leave the account empty with 2FA on. It keeps the option of returning without any of the above.
What to do during the wait
If the account is already closed and the plan is to return, the waiting period is not dead time.
- Keep the closure confirmation email. It is the date the clock starts from, and the thing to quote if a new registration is refused earlier than expected.
- Keep the transaction history export, if you made one. A new account starts with no history, and tax reporting may need the old one.
- Do not register with a different email in the meantime. The identity check runs at verification, not at sign-up, so the new login simply becomes a second unverifiable account, and on Binance the identity details count as “used on another account” for the referral binding page’s 180-day condition.
- Decide now whether the return is worth it. On Binance the new account trades normally but keeps none of the old account’s referral rebate, promotion eligibility or VIP history, and the verification block has no fixed end. If those losses matter to you, weigh them before closing the first account.
Can closing and reopening get you a different referral code?
This is the one case where the answer is clearest: the rebate is the thing the rules say you lose. Binance’s referral FAQ and closure page both say so, and the identity match is how they enforce it. The official routes for an account that has no referrer are in adding or changing a referral; an account that already has one cannot change it on any route, including this one.
