Binance asked for source of funds: what to send, document by document
The official list names one or two documents for each source of money: for a salary, a payslip or a bank statement showing the salary, dated within the last 3 months, or the most recent tax statement; for savings, a bank statement within 3 months showing the balance. Every document must show your full name. A private loan and a crypto sale each need two documents at once.
What counts as proof of source of funds on Binance
From the Acceptable Documents tab. “Within 3 months” means dated within the last 3 months at the time you submit, and every document must show your full name as verified.
| Source | What the page accepts |
|---|---|
| Salary | Payslip within 3 months; or a bank statement within 3 months showing the salary deposits; or the most recent tax statement, all pages |
| Self-employment | Most recent tax statement, all pages; bank statement within 3 months showing income payments; business registration document (optional) |
| Savings | Bank statement within 3 months showing the account balance |
| Allowance or family support | Bank statement showing the allowance payment in any of the last 3 months; or a signed letter from the person providing it, stating amount and frequency |
| Pension or social benefits | Bank statement within 3 months showing the payment; or the most recent benefits statement; or a letter from the provider confirming name, amount, frequency and period |
| Dividends or company profit | Most recent bank statement showing the dividend; or most recent tax statement; or a dividend payment statement or distribution agreement showing the value |
| Bank or institutional loan | Bank statement showing the loan deposit; or the loan or mortgage agreement showing the amount |
| Private or personal loan | An affidavit letter or contract showing the amount, and a bank statement showing the deposit; both are required |
| Sale of crypto assets | Exchange statements or transaction receipts showing the sales, and a tax statement or bank statement showing the proceeds; both are required |
| Real estate you own | Property deed or title with your name and the address; or a tax statement showing the property value; or the purchase contract showing ownership and price |
| Real estate you sold | Tax statement showing the sale profit; or the sale contract showing the price; or the settlement or closing statement showing the value |
| Inheritance | Tax statement showing the amount received; or a copy of the will showing your name and the amount; or a signed letter from the executor, a lawyer, or the grant of probate |
Two rows require two documents at once, the private loan and the crypto sale; the rest accept any one of the listed items. For the crypto sale, a trade history export from the exchange where you sold is one way to supply the exchange statement, and the proceeds have to be visible landing in a bank account or a tax statement.
Self-employed, student or living on savings: what to send
The FAQ tab deals with the cases that do not fit a payslip.
- Self-employed: “Most Recent Tax Statement. Bank Statement - Displaying your full name, the income payments and dated within the last 3 months. Business Registration Document (optional).”
- Student: documents “based on the sources of your funds and wealth - e.g. Bank statement showing your allowance, or any employment income (if applicable).”
- Unemployed, living on savings: “a bank statement to verify your savings”, dated within 3 months, showing your full name and the balance.
If your situation is none of the above, choose the row in the table whose money most resembles yours, and, if the form offers a free-text field, add a short factual note saying what the money is, where it sat before and when it moved.
Where to upload source of funds documents
- Open the request from inside your logged-in account, or from the official email after checking the sender on Binance Verify. Not from a link someone sent you in a chat.
- Answer the politically exposed person declaration first (what it asks), then upload the document for the source you selected. One clear file per document, in colour, every page where the page says “all pages”.
- Submit once. The page says that after submission “we will reach out to you if additional information is required.”
- Do not change anything on the account while the review is open unless asked; an email or phone change starts its own withdrawal hold.
- If support asks a question, answer with the case ID and the same facts. Ask whether anything is outstanding; the page gives no date for the review.
A bank statement that shows your name, the period, and the specific deposits or balance in question is the document the page asks for. A screenshot of an app balance with no name on it does not meet any row of the table.
PEP declaration, source of funds, source of wealth: what each means
Politically exposed person. A declaration of whether you, a relative or a close associate “hold or have held a prominent public position”, meaning senior government officials, senior executives of state-owned enterprises, and their immediate family and close associates. If the answer is yes, say so.
Source of funds. “The origin of the money you have deposited or you plan to deposit into your Binance account, such as salary, savings, proceeds from asset sales etc.” The page adds that sources of funds “are always of a liquid nature”: the actual money that came in.
Source of wealth. “The origin of your total accumulated assets”, which covers employment income, business profits, investments, inheritance and real estate, including crypto holdings. The page sums it up as “SOW explains how you built your total wealth, while SOF explains where the deposited money comes from.”
For someone whose deposits come from a salary, funds and wealth can have the same answer. The distinction matters when the deposit came from somewhere other than your regular income, such as a property sale, an inheritance or a loan.
How long a Binance source of funds review takes, and what not to do
Binance publishes no time limit for an enhanced due diligence review. The page says features or services may be restricted until it is completed; the notice on your account says which. The restriction messages and the clock behind each are matched up in withdrawal suspended or account restricted.
Nothing on the page describes a way to speed the review up. Do not pay anyone who offers to “release funds”, and do not call support numbers found online. If a message about the review arrives anywhere other than inside the account or at the registered email, check it on Binance Verify before replying.
Why Binance asks an already verified account for source of funds
The page answers “my account has already been verified, why do I need to go through additional verification” by saying that the extra information “helps us ensure that your account fully complies with the latest regulatory and security standards.” The page does not say what triggers a request for a particular account, and nothing in it suggests that an explanation alone closes one. The review is closed by documents.
If the request came with a proof-of-address step, that part has its own rules, in proof of address rejected.
Sources · checked October 2026
Definitions, the consequence of not replying, the three named situations and every row of the document table are from Binance’s “How to Complete Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) Verification on Binance?” (updated 6 October 2026), including its Acceptable Documents tab, read in October 2026. Binance does not publish a review duration. How to Complete Enhanced Due Diligence Verification is where the document table above comes from; open it when a review asks for something the table does not cover.
Source of funds or wealth, no payslip, and ignoring the request
What is the difference between source of funds and source of wealth?
Binance's enhanced due diligence page draws the line in one sentence: source of wealth explains how you built your total wealth, while source of funds explains where the deposited money comes from. Funds are the salary, savings or sale proceeds that went into the account; wealth is the longer story of employment, business, investments, inheritance or property.
I live on savings and have no payslip. What do I send?
The page answers this directly: a bank statement dated within the last 3 months that shows your full name and the savings balance. Students are told to send a statement showing their allowance or any employment income; the self-employed send the most recent tax statement, a bank statement showing income payments within 3 months, and optionally a business registration document.
What happens if I ignore the request?
The page says that failing to provide the information may lead to some features or services being restricted or temporarily unavailable until the verification is completed.
Is it safe to send a payslip to Binance?
Binance's page says submitted documents are protected with encryption and physical, electronic and procedural safeguards. The safety question to actually ask is where you are sending it: only through the link in the official notice or the verification pages inside your logged-in account, never by email or chat to anyone who contacts you first.
